ChatGPT Business Pricing: What a Team Actually Pays (2026)

ChatGPT Business is priced per user with a two-seat minimum. What the seat includes, where usage stops, which admin controls you get, and when Enterprise is the better buy.

What you pay

ChatGPT Business is OpenAI's team plan for companies that are not yet large enough for a sales-led Enterprise contract. It is priced per user per month, with a minimum of two users, and you can pay monthly or annually — the annual rate is lower. The exact per-seat figure is in the table below, pulled from the same verified record as every other plan on SubChoice; OpenAI's own pricing page is the source and is linked from every row.

Three things about the bill that the headline price does not show:

  • Seats, not usage, are what you commit to. Every seat gets its own usage envelope. If two people on a five-seat plan do all the heavy work, you are still paying for five.
  • Extra usage is bought as credits. When a workspace runs past its included usage, Business and Enterprise can buy credits for more — the two consumer tiers below Business cannot. Budget for this if anyone on the team runs Codex or deep research all day.
  • Nonprofits get up to 75% off. OpenAI runs a nonprofit programme for Business and Enterprise; it goes through sales, not the checkout page.

What a seat includes

Per person, a Business seat behaves like ChatGPT Plus with a workspace wrapped around it. You get the same model line-up as Plus (the current GPT-5.6 family, including the reasoning models), the same tools — Codex, image generation, deep research, projects, custom GPTs — and, per OpenAI's Codex documentation, the same Codex message allowance as Plus.

What the workspace adds is the part a solo plan cannot give you:

  • A dedicated workspace with unified billing, so nobody is expensing a personal Plus subscription.
  • An admin console with member management and basic user analytics.
  • SAML single sign-on and domain verification.
  • GPTs shared inside the workspace rather than published to the world.
  • Workspace content excluded from model training by default.
  • SOC 2 Type 2 compliance documentation.

What it does not add, and Enterprise does: SCIM provisioning, enterprise key management, IP allow-listing, data residency outside the US, role-based access controls, a compliance API for audit logs, and a named account team.

Business or Enterprise?

The line between the two is not headcount — it is procurement. Business can be bought with a credit card in ten minutes. Enterprise is a contract: custom pricing, invoice billing, a security review, and usage that OpenAI describes as having no fixed rate limits because it scales with the credits in the contract.

Stay on Business if the team is under a few dozen people, nobody in security has asked where the data lives, and your identity provider does not need to create and remove accounts automatically. Move to Enterprise the moment one of those changes — SCIM alone tends to be the trigger for IT teams, and data residency for anyone in a regulated sector. See the ChatGPT Enterprise pricing guide for what that contract typically covers.

The plans to compare it against

Two plans are the direct rivals for a small team: Claude Team, which is also per-seat with a small minimum and pairs a larger context window with a workspace, and Google's team offering inside Workspace, which wins if your documents already live in Drive. The Claude Team vs ChatGPT Business comparison puts the two side by side.

If the honest answer is that only one or two people would use it heavily, price two Plus subscriptions against the two-seat Business minimum before committing — Business is the right buy for the admin controls, not for the per-person capability, which is the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

Two. OpenAI's pricing page states that Business plans are available with at least two users. There is no stated maximum before Enterprise becomes mandatory; the switch is driven by features like SCIM and data residency rather than a headcount threshold.

Yes. Business can be billed monthly or annually, and the annual rate per seat is lower. Enterprise is annual only, under contract.

Not per person. A Business seat has the same models, tools and Codex allowance as Plus. What you are paying the difference for is the workspace: unified billing, an admin console, SSO, shared GPTs and training exclusion by default.

Yes. Business and Enterprise workspaces can purchase credits for additional usage beyond what seats include. The consumer plans (Go, Plus, Pro) do not have that option.
